Welcome to Woman’s Hour: The TERF Report. In this episode, I talk about the case of US v. Skrmetti, which is currently pending before the Supreme Court. This is an incredibly important case in the movement to protect the sex-based rights of women and girls and to stop the abolition of sex, for a few reasons.
This past Monday night, I joined retired Massachusetts Supreme Court Justice Elspeth Cypher and lawyer Glenna Goldis, who goes by Unyielding Bicyclist online (@unyieldingbicyc), in a space hosted by Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender (@DIAGdemocrats), to discuss this important case. A recording of the discussion is available on DIAG’s X timeline.
Speaking of Unyielding Bicyclist, she’s got a great post up on Substack from yesterday titled, “Chase Strangio’s Legal Narrative: Will her sleight of hand enchant the Supreme Court?”
In the podcast, I mention the friend-of-the-court briefs filed by Women’s Declaration International USA (@WDI_USA) in the case. They can both be found on the WDI USA website. The first was filed before the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in July of last year, and the second was filed before the Supreme Court in October. Every friend-of-the-court brief filed in the case (all >80 of them) can be found on the Supreme Court’s docket.
I was pleased to learn earlier this week that the group Parents With Inconvenient Truths About Trans (PITT) has joined one such brief. According to PITT’s announcement:
PITT is a forum for parents to share our personal experiences of how we’ve been impacted by gender ideology. We are grateful for everyone who writes and reads our stories. Sometimes though, it can feel like we’re just shouting into the void. We wonder if anyone but us notices or cares about our experiences. Hopefully, the good news we have will reassure you that someone is paying attention to us, and our collective voices are being heard.
…
PITT was asked to sign because we have become a powerful, authoritative voice on the harmful impacts of gender ideology on parents, children, families, and society. Our over 850 published firsthand accounts are the evidence.
…
In the meantime, if you’ve ever wondered if writing your story for PITT made a difference, rest assured that it has. We know how harmful gender ideology is, and now the U.S. Supreme will know it too.
I have never been more proud to stand with all the groups and individuals who are fighting hard to protect the sex-based rights of women and girls and to stop the abolition of sex. Have a great weekend!
