This is a BIG deal! Bravo to this brave young lady. Her courage will have a ripple effect. I had Grand Mal seizures, losing consciousness in public, for 16 years starting at age 16 ( I cured myself and am fine now). I cannot imagine the horror of knowing I could lose consciousness in a public bathroom where men can enter. Don't forget disabled people in this conversation. It's not fair or safe. We are more vulnerable and 5 times more likely to be targeted.
The best reason for excluding boys from girls' restrooms even if they "identify" as girls? They're not girls. All other considerations flow from that, including girls' needs for privacy, dignity and safety.
It's best to give gender confused boys a dose of sex realism as early as possible lest they become accustomed to misogynistic "affirmation" at a young age and carry it with them to adulthood.
This is a great outcome and I applaud mum and daughter for their initiative. However (here comes my negativity again), what happens when a boy demands access to the girls’ toilets because he claims a girl gender identity? What will the school say? Will they have the wherewithal to say that their bathroom policy is based upon sex, not gender? What happens when the aggrieved boy’s parents sue the school, funded of course by a trans rights organization?
Sometimes the British courts have sided with gender critical plaintiffs, such as Maya Forstater, but sometimes they side with a plaintiff like Keira Bell, only to reverse the decision under pressure from gender activists. Plus, the Brits are becoming more censorious and authoritarian every day.
This is not to say that mum and daughter should not have written their letter and achieved a groundbreaking result based on truth and common sense. Their success is remarkable and wonderful. I just hope the school has the courage of its conviction and has an excellent barrister ready to do battle. Even more, I hope I’m wrong.
Whenever I hear men saying, it's, 'their right to use the women's bathroom and they need to go in there because that's how they identity' I say, great, I support you since that's so important to use that rom for your identity, but there needs to be a same sex option. You can use the women's restroom, and the women will use the same sex bathroom. Of course they object to that, but it's an option and they can't say, "I just need to pee." Great, go pee in the women's restroom, I'll be in the same sex bathroom. Win/Win. You have a "women identity" and I am a women. No connection. Different reality.
It's a logical solution. But how many women would find it acceptable? Because of the bullying and narcissism of trans-identified men, we're going to gift them the definition of "woman" and go next door?
Even from a legal point of view, I doubt it would be tenable, because it would set a precedent for eliminating women as a sex class by redefining the word "woman" as a trans-identified man...not just in bathrooms, but everywhere. Or, would women still be women in certain contexts, but not others? How would that be determined, once we cave in to their delusions?
I'm not a lawyer, but if it were implemented, it seems to me that it would overturn all the established precedents ensuring the rights of women based on sex. At very least, it would privilege the false claims of transgender ideology.
As I said, I understand your point and where you're coming from, and if we were living in a sane world, maybe it could work. But if we were living in a sane world, we wouldn't need to implement this suggestion in the first place.
Maybe I'm wrong. I'd love to hear the perspective of others on this issue.
You’re right. They can have a gender neutral bathroom and we get the women’s rest room. I don’t have a gender identity but I’m trying to have one. I’m praying to Jesus to give me one. I’m hoping my prayers are answered. I have faith that I’ll be bestowed with one, then I can comfortably sit on the hopper next to males and feel progressive!
When I was that age, the boys and girls restrooms were in completely different wings of the school building. Teachers could bust any boy hanging out by the girls bathroom as that was considered suspect.
Great job! Just don’t want anyone to think that standing up for what is legal will actually have the effect you want it to or it should have. Many of us have simply been hammered down by doing same. 😕 Onward, Terven! ☮️❤️🐾
Wonderful ! This should encourage more to 'SAY NO !'.
Agree!

Congratulations to all concerned!
