Earlier today I came across this piece in Not the Bee, with the headline: “American College of Cardiology study says cross-sex hormones create SEVEN TIMES higher risk of stroke.”
Curious to learn more, I had a look at the study. Sure enough, it states:
People with gender dysphoria taking hormone replacements as part of gender affirmation therapy face a substantially increased risk of serious cardiac events, including stroke, heart attack and pulmonary embolism, according to a study presented at the American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session Together With the World Congress of Cardiology.
…
In the study, people with gender dysphoria who had ever used hormone replacements saw nearly seven times the risk of ischemic stroke (a blockage in a vessel supplying blood to the brain), nearly six times the risk of ST elevation myocardial infarction (the most serious type of heart attack) and nearly five times the risk of pulmonary embolism (a blockage in an artery in the lung), compared with people with gender dysphoria who had never used hormone replacements.
…
Both estrogen and testosterone are known to increase the clotting activity of blood, which could explain the increase in clotting-related cardiovascular events, researchers said.
I am not a physician, and am therefore not qualified to opine on the validity of this study or on its significance. However, I did think this was important enough to share.
This is obviously not good news for people who are caught up in it; it’s terrible. But if the American College of Cardiology is being this candid about the dangerous nature of these hormones, that can only be a good thing.
UNRELATED to the topic of this post, but related to Not the Bee:
Here is a great piece they ran yesterday, called “Dear Fox News: If you honor the transgender pronouns of a deranged child molester, you are part of the problem.”
Here is a fun review they did of my book The Abolition of Sex, in which they said one of my favorite things that has ever been said about radical feminists: “Before we get started, here's something useful to know about radical feminists: They punch hard, whether they are punching at you or with you.”
Thank you so much for alerting us to this study. Over time, we will surely see long-term damage from administering cross-sex hormones to male and female bodies. We know already the dangers of giving hormones in "benign" circumstances. (Think the use of estrogen in post-menopausal women about 10 or 15 years ago. This significantly upped the risk of a certain kind of breast cancer and is no longer recommended.) It is common sense to expect that cross-sex hormone use, especially long-term, will result in serious health consequences. Almost every cell in the human body is a sex cell, in that it is imbedded with either an XX or XY chromosome. The human body will resist the bombardment of such cross sex hormones, and will continue to try to regulate itself in the way that it is supposed to. Endocrinologists know this full well.
Wow, thank you for alerting us to this new study, which I just pulled up. It is very heartening to see this stuff coming out.
