Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of Title IX, which prohibits sex discrimination in education. It was a great day to celebrate, and I was happy to join so many spectacular women – politicians, advocates, and athletes – at the Our Bodies Our Sports rally. 4W wrote about the event here and that piece contains a link to a video of the entire event, also here.
There was a very sad little band of protesters at the event, who evidently do not think that women deserve to play sports and did not want to join us in celebrating Title IX.
While we were celebrating Title IX, the Biden administration announced rule-making procedures to decimate sex-specific spaces in education, as feared. Strategically (probably for electoral purposes), it seems to have omitted sports from its ambit, but the proposed rules are still ominous, for other reasons.
After the rally, a handful of women held a private meeting with former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) for a candid conversation about how the Democratic party’s insistence on enshrining “gender identity” in the law harms women and girls.
I’ll go into all of this in more detail here.
