Win for free speech and reality in the US
Parents Defending Education v. Linn-Mar Community School District
February 26, 2024
Last week, Parents Defending Education (PDE) announced that it had settled its case against the Linn-Mar Community School District in Iowa. I didn’t write about it here at the time, though I did post an X thread about it. It turns out I’m glad I didn’t write about the case here last week because the always entertaining Court of the EDI Jester has just posted a fun video about it, which I’m pleased to share here.
The bottom line is that a three-judge panel of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that students and their parents and not required to “affirm,” or even respect, a person’s stated “gender identity.” According to the settlement agreement, the school district has rescinded and agreed not to reinstate a policy that had punished students for the alleged offense of “misgendering.” This is a win for speech and the material reality of sex.
