Earlier today, the Washington Post published this piece, titled Most Americans oppose trans athletes in female sports, poll finds. The poll results are good news for the movement to protect women’s sex-specific sports. But I don’t think we should be celebrating because I think the poll itself, including the questions posed to participants, is ultimately harmful because it normalizes the idea that “gender identity” is a coherent concept that somehow negates the material reality of sex.

My goal in this piece is to explain why I think that, in further detail.
