Social media is filled with examples of gender zealots being flat-out racist in making their arguments against single-sex facilities and “misgendering” (among other nonsense).
This is comparing black women (and lesbians) to “trans women” (i.e., men).
The “three letter S word” referred to here is “sir,” and this man is saying that accurately referring to him as a man is equivalent to using a racial slur.
This is saying that single-sex spaces are the same as Jim Crow racial segregation (again insinuating that black women are essentially men).
The idea that black women are somehow like men (or are men) is a common racist trope flung at black women. That’s why I was appalled to see The Guardian publish a racist essay comparing Representative Nancy Mace’s (R-SC) efforts to maintain single-sex bathrooms at the Capitol to racial segregation.
For an excellent take on how black women are uniquely impacted by society’s denial of the material reality of sex, check out this excellent statement by the Black Women’s Caucus of Women’s Declaration International USA.
