Earlier this month, the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) announced that it will be closing its Center for Transyouth Health and Development and its Gender-Affirming Care (GAC) surgical program by July 22, 2025. The LGB Courage Coalition put out a fantastic statement about its responsibilities going forward.

Last week, dozens of people protested. According to CBS News, the protesters were demanding that “the medical center reverse its decision to shut down its gender-affirming programs.” That’s media speak for saying the protesters demanded that the medical center continue to provide drugs to kids that are known to cause long-term harm such as sterility, disease, and the inability to develop sexual function as an adult.

Last week, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) announced that it plans to do the same thing. I’m sure there are others.

These moves stem in part from the January Executive Order “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation” and in part from the June 18 Supreme Court ruling in US v. Skrmetti that states may constitutionally prohibit the administration of puberty blockers and opposite-sex hormones to minors.

This is all cause for celebration for anyone who cares about children. It is consistent with Article IX of the Declaration on Women’s Sex-Based Rights and Article VII of the Democratic Women’s Declaration.

No one with a shred of integrity wants medical professionals to provide drugs to kids that are known to cause long-term harm such as sterility, disease, and the inability to develop sexual function as an adult. I’m definitely celebrating.

However, I have some concerns about where society is heading with respect to the movement to protect the sex-based rights of women and girls and to stop the abolition of sex. Read on to find out why.
