Many readers are likely familiar with the “Wi Spa incident” that took place in July 2021. For those who aren’t: Wi Spa is a 24-hour Korean spa in Los Angeles. It has a men’s floor, a women’s floor, and a mixed-sex floor (as well as a rooftop terrace and a restaurant). Nudity is expected on the single-sex floors (bathing suits are not permitted in the spas) and clothing is expected in the mixed-sex areas. On July 24, 2021, a woman posted a video to her Instagram account, alleging that the spa had permitted a man to be naked on the women’s floor, exposing his erect penis to women and girls. The man was subsequently charged with indecent exposure, having previously been convicted of indecent exposure in 2002 and 2003, being obligated to register as a sex offender since 2006, and convicted for failing to register in 2008.
Here is news coverage of the incident, explaining that the spa believed that it was in compliance with state law and featuring a man (a “transgender woman,” if you believe the noise) named “Bamby Salcedo.” Salcedo stated, “California is the state in the whole nation that has the most trans-inclusive legislation” and complained about discrimination against “trans people.”
On January 27, it was reported that a 26-year-old man named Hannah Tubbs would be housed in the girls’ section of a juvenile detention facility after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Los Angeles.
Earlier this month, journalist Abigail Shrier, author of the 2020 book Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters, wrote an in-depth exposé called “A Predator’s Paradise,” stating, “[on] the grounds of making California more welcome to LGBTQ youth, State Senator Scott Wiener is transforming the state into a haven for human trafficking.”
So what on earth is going on in California?
