This morning, the New York Times published this opinion piece, and it nearly broke the internet. I understand that many readers probably do not subscribe to the Times and will not be able to see it, and I apologize for that. But for those readers who do subscribe, you’ll see immediately that it’s a game-changer.
Pamela Paul, the author, takes both the right and the left to task for oppressing women and girls and her takes are generally incisive.
Reading it, I was reminded of Andrea’s observation in her 1983 book Right Wing Women: “To right wing men, we are private property. To left wing men, we are public property. In either case, we are not considered to be humans: we are things."
It’s about time the New York Times exposed the misogyny of female erasure on the political left and I’m grateful that Paul has done so. I look forward to seeing whether it has the courage to persevere.
