“LGBTQ” is the Only Policy Area on Which Trump Has Majority Public Support
And is “Trump regret” a thing?
February 27, 2025
I recently came across an ABC article titled, “Americans voted for Trump, but don't support his agenda.” It’s an analysis of recent polls, and states:
[W]ith the severity and scope of the administration's actions rapidly ramping up — including looming mass federal firings and a tariff war that threatens price hikes for key goods such as groceries, cars and electronics — it's worth asking how much the public actually supports what the White House is doing. Looking at all the polls that have been released since Trump took office, we find that while Americans express support for some of Trump's immigration policy and broad government reform in principle, they oppose most of what he has done in his first month as president.
Notably, however, the poll found that a majority of Americans support what the administration is doing on what it refers to as the “LGBTQ” policy area.
Make no mistake, by “LGBTQ,” it means recent executive orders that eliminate “gender identity” from federal law and policy and protect female-only sports for women and girls (a position that is wildly popular among American voters). The article itself acknowledges as much:
Trump has also issued several executive orders about sex and gender. The most popular is a Feb. 5 order titled "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports," which ends federal funding for any educational institution that allows transgender women to participate in female sports programs or enter female locker rooms in schools. This policy is popular with 65 percent of adults, per an Echelon Insights poll from Feb. 10-13, and with 64 percent per a Feb. 9-11 YouGov poll. On average, it is net positive by 32 points. Similarly, the public approves of a Trump order to officially recognize only two sexes and remove references to "gender" (replacing them with "sex") from all official federal business.
To the best of my knowledge, none of the recent executive orders target lesbians, gay men, or bisexual people (paid subscribers can correct me in the comments if I’m wrong), many of whom agree that sex is real and that it matters for the purpose of protecting same-sex attraction in the law.
I also recently came across a post on X by a Trump voter, saying that she feels “betrayed” by “Trump’s action in freeing the Tate brothers.”
My main point in this post is to examine the ABC poll in further detail, but between the poll and that X post, I’ve started wondering: Are people who voted for him regretting their decision? I’m confident that at least some of my paid subscribers voted for him, and I would love to hear from them in the comments.
