First, for readers following the case of US v. Skrmetti, Glenna Goldis provides a great primer of a Who’s Who in the case. Oral arguments are scheduled before the Supreme Court on Wednesday December 4 and if all goes as planned, I’ll be in the courtroom watching.
Goldis notes that the plaintiffs in the case are represented by the ACLU’s Chase Strangio and that “Last month her colleagues reportedly thought about benching her because her behavior in preparing for argument was so immature. More recent media coverage suggests the ACLU still backs Strangio.” She cites New York Magazine for the latter proposition; here is publicly available coverage from CNN to the same effect.
More to the point of today’s post, I recently came across an interesting conversation on X among two of my favorite TERFs and one TERF-adjacent man about the movement for social justice. They seemed to be discussing the question of whether it’s possible to excise some of the more pernicious aspects of it without throwing out the entire thing.
The conversation made me think deeply about my own past and current involvement in what might loosely be called “social justice” and where I stand on the question.
