End of January in ‘24 we had a little NEWS meeting in Marblehead MA, and there was a set of 3 liberal mothers on straight-backed chairs sitting in a row, all with stories of how schools and society had ripped apart their families with gender ideology, and how one then another admitted they regetably were going to vote for Trump. None liked him, but believed he was the only one that might stop the gender madness.
I drove back to Maine obsessing about how much the Democratic party would lose if they didn’t pivot to sex-based rights. I got home, and opened up the first emailed announcement for DIAG! “Right time, right place.” I admire how you joining this board shows you aren’t giving up on liberal-left principles or the Dem party, Kara.
I will not walk away from my party of women's, LGB, BIWOC, elderly, and disabled rights.
I will not walk away from my party that gave America women's liberation, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, Obamacare, Roe v Wade, Title IX, environmental awareness, and the end of Jim Crow.
I will not walk away from the party that *I* helped build.
The Democratic Party belongs to me and tens of millions of women just like me, who have spent decades of our lives sacrificing time, energy, and money to make sure that our values are a part of our government.
Neither I nor those tens of millions of women just like me sold our party to a Republican billionaire. Someone else did that.
Sadly, your party no longer exists, I think. Nor does the Republican party of Eisenhower. We need to admit this harsh truth in order to figure out where we go from here.
My Party still supports women's reproductive rights, gay rights, civil rights, care for those who can't care for themselves, and environmental protections for this planet upon which we all depend for our very lives. My Party gave us all Social Security while the Republican Party fought back. That's my Party.
It's been sold to a Republican billionaire. But that ends every year and/or election cycle. He hasn't bought it in perpetuity. He has to keep repeatedly ponying up the cash. He'll stop when it's no longer worth it financially to him.
And the gender-enforcement lobby is beginning to fail. Everyone can read the writing on the wall. The lawsuits are going to impoverish those sexist woman-hating gay-hating idiots like James Pritzker, unless they cut bait and run.
The real harsh truth that needs to be dealt with is the 2010 SCOTUS decision on Citizens United v the FEC over the political smearing of Hillary Clinton. That decision handed our entire political system over, lock, stock, and barrel, to the wealthiest of the wealthy. So now money owns our government.
That decision MUST be reversed. We MUST put limits on how much money can be spent on a political campaign.
Then the American people will have our voices again.
DIAG supporter here who couldn't be more excited about this announcement. In the US, our extreme tribalism means many on the Left will only listen to info coming from within. Your presence ups DIAG's game immeasurably. Thank you!
Congratulations again Kara. Give ‘em hell! 💪🏻. I have been a WDI supporter for awhile now but just went over and signed up on the DIAG website. In my comments I mentioned that I heard about DIAG through you. ☺️👍. I also said that before I abandon the Democratic Party to register as an Independent- something I have thought about doing quite a bit these days- it is time to take back our party from the Gender Zealots if we can. 💙
I contribute to DIAG. I also contribute to IWF and ICON. I have always been a Dem but recently reregistered as a Republican so I can vote in the Oregon primary in hopes of getting a decent non-Trumpy, pro-choice Republican Governor candidate—the only one who’d have a chance in this deep blue “keep Portland weird” state where gender identity has been embedded in every single government institution, the media, sports, public education.
Rationally, the scourge of gender identity is what we used to call a nonpartisan issue. When 80% (plus or minus) of Americans want boys out of girls sports and men out of women’s prisons that’s not a partisan issue. We need to capitalize on that. Dems pride themselves on being the “smart” ones, so they have to know the polls. Yet for whatever reason, they are in lockstep and unwilling to change. So in the short run, the best hope for change in deep blue states is with ballot initiatives where the issue matters, not the party. I am supporting those efforts too. Whatever it takes.
Oh my god, only people who never knew about the 1960s, 70s and 80s--when we fought against the odds for world peace, to end world hunger, and to save the planet from environmental destruction and nuclear holocaust--could think there's something intrinsically virtuous about getting tattoos and piercings.
On the West Coast, we used to say Portland is what would happen if San Francisco quit its day-job to focus on its music.
Kara, you're an asset to any group you're involved with. You have a seemingly endless reservoir of hope and positive thinking, despite spending as much time neck deep in trans B.S. as any committed TERF.
I'm glad DIAG exists, even though I'm far from convinced that rank and file Democrats who are entrenched in trans ideology will be moving towards common sense any time soon. Trans is viewed by progressives as the ultimate moral high ground issue. Virtue signaling among Democrats is more than a hobby.
The biggest hurdle coming up for the Democrats may be Kamala Harris's talk of running again for the presidency. I was shocked that anybody took her seriously last time, although I know it was mainly based on the fact that she's not Trump as well as the desire to see a woman president.
Harris is as vapid as ever, but with more confidence, particularly given Trump's poor performance. The only thing Harris has to stand on is identity politics, the least important thing about a person. I don't see her becoming a champion for detransitioners, female athletes and incarcerated women, or parents trying to save their children. DIAG will need to push the message hard and smartly. Best of luck to Kara, DIAG, and all of us.
Voters are not determining the policies of their Parties anymore.
Parties are determining the policies of their voters.
That's because Citizens United v the FEC 2010 handed our government over to the wealthiest of the wealthy. So now Parties are beholden to their donors, not their voters.
So we don't need to do anything about the rank-&-file Democrats entrenched in gender ideology. Any voters brainless enough to follow the DNC into gender ideology will brainlessly follow them right back out again.
i’m thrilled you’re joining the DIAG board—we need them now more than ever, and they need you 💪
i have many thoughts that don’t align perfectly with anyone’s political template, but i’m a cradle catholic-worker-fdr/jfk-democrat who’d like to see us move beyond our current crisis of reason without anyone getting hurt.
crazy how the hostility surfaces when it’s women’s rights they mean to take. where’s that fire for healthcare? wages? war?
true malice, along with its implicit and explicit threats of violence is reserved just for women. when a man wants something he better get it or “you’ll be sorry.”
this tells me i’m right where i need to be. we’re all truly needed to hold this space ✊ [i’ma go check my DIAG status now]
Congratulations Kara! I consider myself a center/right-leaning classic liberal, and those who call themselves feminists who won't forgive you for using your own judgment are no better than males who try and police female behavior. I personally can't stand TC but you're a grown woman at the forefront of the battle lines and if you thought that was good exposure, it probably was. I hope you and others can turn the dems around.

BIG DAY for us! Welcome, Kara!!
Yay!
DIAG supporter here. Politically homeless, former Democrat, waiting for sane Democrats.
(Couldn't vote for Trump or Harris.)
I know a Republican who voted for Harris because she couldn't vote for Trump.
These days, all the Parties are f'ed up.

Good strategy! My favorite portrayal of Portland (which you have no doubt seen): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4hShMEk1Ew

just bought a bunch of DIAG swag — can’t wait to get DIAG flag, stickers and tote bag!
I'm a Camelot Baby--born during the brief administration of JFK.
We were born into a bright world where all things were hopeful.
I've never lost that optimism. And it has saved my sanity.
Congrats to DIAG and to you! A great group.
Awesome news! Makes me feel hopeful!
Congratulations, Kara and DIAG!
Yaaay! Congratulations, you're perfect for this!
