FFS (Female Free Speech) Friday honors women and girls who are speaking out about the harms that “gender identity” poses to women and girls as a sex class. Thanks so much to Amy Sousa (@KnownHeretic on X) for a lovely post appreciating the series.
FFS Friday posts are free and shareable. A paid subscription gets you regular access to much more content and the ability to comment and engage in conversation with other thoughtful people.
Today’s FFS Friday celebrates Jo Bartosch (@jo_bartosch on X), a journalist in the UK. She has been TERFing for a very long time now. I interviewed her regarding her 2025 book Pornocracy last November (her co-author is Robert Jessel). That interview is free and shareable, so please have a listen and share it with your friends.
However, she has never been the subject of an FFS Friday, so here we go.
You’re not oppressed, deal with it.
Jo writes. A lot.
She is a prolific author at spiked, where she has published titles such as “Trans activism has a murderous streak” and “HMRC’s toffs and trannies helpline.”
She also frequently publishes in The Critic, with titles such as “Vandalising the law” and “The trans war on reality.”
She is also exceptionally funny.
The reason I’m making her the subject of today’s FFS Friday is a post she made yesterday:
Not wanting to have sex is not an identity. Indeed, it can be a symptom of hormonal changes or trauma that might need treatment. Making it an identity is dangerous, and spectacularly self-indulgent. You’re not oppressed, deal with it.
She posted this in response to someone who was going on about asexuality:
Am I nervous about backlash from addressing JK Rowling’s comments and the harm it can cause, in my documentary? Yes, but if it means raising awareness of what asexuality, aromantic and aroace are, how her comments are harmful, and possibly educating a few people, it’s worth it.
With a big platform comes a lot of responsibility, and educating yourself, taking accountability and apologising is so important.
The JK Rowling comments she was upset about included:
Happy International Fake Oppression Day to everyone who wants complete strangers to know they don’t fancy a shag.
I want an International Bored of this Shit Day.
and, in response to someone who told JK Rowling that she’ll need a flag for her “International Bored of this Shit Day”:
I’m thinking a grey background to represent the tedium, and a pair of rolling eyes to express the exasperation.
So, Jo’s response to the person who was “nervous about backlash from addressing JK Rowling’s comments and the harm it can cause” to “asexuality, aromantic, and aroace” (whatever that last one means), Jo said, simply, “You’re not, oppressed, deal with it.” I love it.
I have met Jo on a number of occasions during various trips to the UK and I always enjoy chatting with (to, for the Brits) her.
Jo, thank you so much for speaking out, consistently, and without holding back. Thank you so much for the lols. Today’s FFS Friday is for you.
