It makes me sick to my stomach that grown adults are forcing girls through this. This is an era of unspeakable shame for all the adults involved. They will never, ever, ever be forgiven.
EF's situation is sickening, still she enflames me with hope; she "gets" it and refuses to make herself small; she refuses to be compartmentalized, refuses to accept that tired old trans trope that her unwillingness to suck the "gurldik" somehow makes her a bigot. THIS is a young woman with bullshit detector that goes to 11 and understands her right to free speech. She who cannot be gaslit! Preach girl! May it take a nation of millions to hold you and your army back!!! 💪🏼 Respect!
Ella is amazing. Sad that she has had to grow up so fast because of a degrading misogynistic ideology, but Kara is right. Bravo! She should become a lawyer and fight for women’s rights.
As for the content of her speech, it is sickening on all fronts how badly the supposed “adults in the room” have behaved. But this from her speech hit me like a gut punch:
“ I stopped using the bathroom in my own school. I’ve had people threaten my life. I turned 17 while strangers online talked about what they’d like to do to me. And some of the adults who work in this building joined in on it.”
How has it come to this? That a 17 year old girl is “discussed” with violent intent by adults who work for the school system is grotesque. And all because she wants for herself and her classmates what I took for granted growing up: privacy and safety when most vulnerable.
I know the reckoning will happen, but it cannot come soon enough.
Are the sports and locker rooms at Ella’s school single sex? They must be, or I’d think she would have mentioned them.
How strange that a school board, already applying the concept that boys do not belong in girls’ spaces, won’t decide that they don’t belong in girls’ bathrooms, either.
Ella's words made me cry.

Jesus. Ella, 17, says she’s speaking up so a 14-yo freshman doesn’t have to 🥺
Where the eff are the adults??
The adults are examining themselves in the mirror to ensure that they haven't misgendered themselves.
Truth!

I cannot believe this happened this week. What a week!
