FFS (Female Free Speech) Friday honors women and girls who are speaking out about the harms that “gender identity” poses to women and girls as a sex class. FFS Friday posts are free and shareable. If you would like access to content that delves deeper into the movement to protect the sex-based rights of women and girls and to stop the abolition of sex, please consider a paid subscription.
Today’s FFS Friday celebrates Elizabeth Kenney, who is speaking out about an aggressive naked man she encountered in the women’s locker room at the Berkeley (California) YMCA on March 26. She is also speaking out on behalf of her granddaughter, who encountered a naked boy in the girls’ locker room in her school in Nevada.
Here she is, speaking at an event by the group Women Are Real, in Berkeley, earlier this month:
We are done with this. We do not consent to men being in women’s locker rooms. Ever. Ever!
She was talking about a man who was in the women’s locker room at the Berkeley Y for a full thirty minutes. She encountered him in the locker room and tried to ignore the situation before going to work out. She said:
I came back, and he was yelling aggressively at a little woman that was eighty years old. She was about four feet tall, and she couldn’t speak that much English. I asked him to leave her alone. He kept telling her, “If you” … All she did was ask him to cover up his front part, his genitals, okay? What he kept telling her was, “If you don’t like the way I look, then you have a problem with yourself.”
This woman was eighty years old, people. This man was, like, 6’5”. He was built like a football player. … This was a dude in the locker room, in the women’s locker room.
When I intervened and told him to stop harassing her, he told ME to get out of the locker room. I stayed there until she got behind me, and she was safely away, and then I went upstairs and told the management. The management looked at me straight faced and they did not show any concern.
We are done with this. We do not consent to men being in women’s locker rooms. Ever. Ever!
She told the same story to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), in tears. They ignored her completely.
As Women Are Real reports, she reported her concerns to Berkeley YMCA. They didn’t care. She went to the police. They said it’s a crime if he’s naked on the sidewalk, but not in her locker room. The local press won’t touch it. She’s going public & risking the consequences.
She is also speaking out on behalf of her granddaughter, who is based in Washoe County, Nevada. The local news outlet KOLO reported in a news segment it titled “Controversy rises over transgenders in high school girls’ locker rooms” that “parents and students in Washoe County are pushing back against transgender students being allowed to change in girls’ locker rooms.” It reported that students and parents spoke to the Washoe County School Board of Trustees to voice concerns about “sacrificing their privacy for certain individuals.”
They showed a clip of Elizabeth saying, about a boy who was using the girls’ locker room, “He also gets a front-row seat to view naked females.”
The board is relying on Washoe County Administrative Regulation 5161 to allow boys to be naked in the girls’ locker room. The board isn’t wrong. The county adopted AR 5161 in 2015. It states:
Students shall have access to use facilities that correspond to their gender identity as expressed by the student and asserted at school, irrespective of the gender listed on the student’s records, including but not limited to locker rooms. Transgender and gender non-conforming students shall not be forced to use the locker room corresponding to their physiological or biological sex at birth.
But parents and grandparents had no idea this policy, adopted ten years ago, even exists. In her remarks before the board, Elizabeth said, “Every parent should have been notified that the male is invading the girls’ locker room, irrespective of any law that permits it.”
Here is Elizabeth speaking to the board:
The man sitting behind her also spoke out about this injustice.
Several girls spoke out as well, and KOMO blurred their names and faces (I assume that’s because they’re minors). Girls should not have to be doing this. AR 5161 never should have been adopted in the first place, and now it needs to be rescinded. Teenage boys should not have access to the girls’ locker room under any circumstances. I don’t care whether they have “gender identities.” This is abuse of women and girls, pure and simple.
Elizabeth, I’m sorry you encountered that aggressive man in the women’s locker room at the Berkeley Y (though, having lived in Oakland before, I can’t say I’m surprised to hear this is happening). I’m sorry for that eighty-year-old woman. I hate that the Y, the police, and the local press are all ignoring you. I’m so sorry for your granddaughter and the other girls at her school. None of this should be happening. But thank you for speaking out. Thank you for using your voice on behalf of yourself and women and girls everywhere. Today’s FFS Friday is for you. I promise you we’re going to win.
This incident again illustrates the importance of accurate labeling, which the media refuses to do. "A transgender student" is not sufficient.
"Help! There's a naked woman leering at us in our locker room!" said no man ever.
Happy to say I’ll be talking with Elizabeth this afternoon for my podcast, UnMuted! I was at the Y with her last weekend and she’s as deserving of the FFS honor as anyone. I’ll let you know when the episode drops. 💪🏻
