Hello DIAG Supporters,
HR 2616 passed the House on May 20, 2026, by a vote of 217-198. This critical bill requires public elementary and middle schools receiving federal funds to obtain parental consent before changing a student’s “gender markers,” pronouns, preferred names on school forms, or sex-based accommodations (e.g., bathrooms, locker rooms). It also prohibits federal funds from being used to teach gender ideology in K-12 schools.
While requiring parental consent is a positive step against school secrecy policies that hide a student’s crucial mental health information from their parents, we understand that this bill is far from adequate. Schools should never initiate or facilitate a serious psychosocial intervention in the first place. This is not the role of teachers, counselors, or administrators. The parental consent requirement ignores that many parents lack full understanding of the implications of so-called “social transition,” and doesn’t account for the coercive pressures parents face, such as threats of child alienation or CPS involvement, that can force compliance. Still, this bill is important for protecting children and families.
The next step for HR 2616 is a Senate committee hearing on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 7am PT/10am ET. Tune in to the live broadcast here!
Take action now! Call, email, and follow up with the 8 Democratic Representatives who supported the bill and the 11 Senators on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions (HELP) Committee who will hear the bill this week. See templates below.
Thank you,
The DIAG Team

Subject: Thank You for Voting Yes on HR 2616–Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act
Dear Representative [Last Name],
Thank you for your courageous yes vote on HR 2616, the Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act. Requiring parental consent for schools to change a child’s “gender markers,” pronouns, names, or sex-based facilities is an important step toward transparency and protecting families. However, parental consent should not be the standard at all. Many parents do not fully understand the long-term medical, psychological, and social consequences of affirming a child’s confusion about their sex. Worse, schools and activists often pressure families through threats of alienation or involvement of CPS, coercing compliance. This ideology must be removed from public schools entirely—no social transitions, no secret policies, no curriculum pushing it. We urge you to continue supporting strong protections that prioritize biological reality, child safeguarding over gender identity ideology, and parental rights, in education.
Thank you again for standing up for our kids and families.
Sincerely,

Subject: Support for HR 2616–Advance to Senate Floor Vote to Protect Kids
Dear Senator [Last Name],
I urge you to support HR 2616, the Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act, and move it quickly out of committee to a full Senate vote.
This bill mandates that schools obtain parental consent to “socially transition” children (changing names, pronouns, “gender markers,” and/or which facilities a child uses), ending the widespread practice of keeping crucial mental health information from parents about their child. Parental consent is necessary for child-safeguarding, although parents often lack complete information about the physical and psychological risks these interventions raise, and are subject to immense pressure (including child alienation tactics or CPS threats) that can force compliance. Excluding a parent — a child’s most important source of support — from decisions that can lead a child down an irreversible medical pathway is dangerously reckless. Voting to advance HR 2616 shows your constituents that you prioritize students’ well-being, acknowledge biological reality, and support parental rights.
Sincerely,

Thanks, as always, for your support!

Not feeling hopeful about my senator (Patty Murray- WA) but I did write her about my daughter’s secret social transition in middle school and, thankfully, her subsequent desistance in high school. Because she was not a boy.
Thank you for sharing this! Any ideas on whether there is a candidate for CA State Superintendent who is pro 2616 and anti-transing kids in school?
